Workshops I, Belgrade (Serbia)

On September 10-11, 2019 in Belgrade was held an international workshop entitled Worker participation in GIG economy – long term scenarios for the automotive sector

 

The Project is meant for trade unions and employers in the automotive industry so that they could respond to the problems of workers‘ participation in strategic decisions made by the companies, related to the future development and the way the labor market should face challenges brought by globalization and rise of the gig economy. The main project goal is to increase workers’ influence on strategic decisions made by multinational companies within the automotive industry. Having in mind that gig economy and non-standard forms of employment influence the change of the definition of ‘worker‘, it is necessary to provide for effective workers‘ participation in decision-making through knowledge improvement, cooperation on an action plan.   

On September 10, 2019, the first day of the workshop participants in the Project were presented by the experts with the EU Directives defining workers’ participation in the management through the decision-making process, information, and consultation. 

On the second day of the workshop, September 11, 2019, experts presented the lecture on the concept of Gig economy, as well as platform economy, non-standard forms of employment and new division of workers according to the International Labour Organisation and Eurofound, afterwards the position of workers in gig economy together with work characteristics was explained, and there were talks about social dialogue in the digital world.

Final conclusion of all participants is that it is necessary to maintain social dialogue in these critical times and the introduction of workers’ interests in the decision-making and organization processes is useful and contributes to a larger number of sustainable and better solutions in the company, and may also contribute to more efficiency and competitiveness of the company and its modernization at the labor market.
